Stonewall Jackson

General History CDs

Stonewall Jackson was described by the Southern State's leading general as my right arm. General Lee, who is to be discussed next, kept the much larger more modern Union Armies at bay for an exceptionally long time. Much of this was due to Stonewall's skills. The South's calvary, which sometimes had a pair of revolvers each, brought for a time the modern form of the Macadonian Calvary of Alexander the Great to the battlefields of the US Civil War. Heading head long into enemy units and discharging all their shots they wreaked havoc on the union forces. Stonewall for a time kept three Union armies, all of whom were substantially larger than his forces, in a state of confusion.

First to show brilliance in the war with Mexico, making it seem easy- by military standards- in his efforts in the taking of Mexico City.  General Lee along with Stonewall Jackson was able to hold off the Leviathan North so long that the South almost kept its independents from the Yankees.  Image if Lee had chosen to join the union forces, which he serious thought of doing, the defeat of the South could have been much quicker. Unless the initial less experienced Stonewall could have learned on the job and break neck speed.

Nathan b. Forest

General History CDs

Nathan Bedford Forest was the son of an illiterate blacksmith who rose up to be a millionaire. Signing up to be a private at the outbreak of the US civil war he found this not to his liking. He left his position and started up his own regiment-which he paid for himself.

In the whole civil war there was no one who rose in rank higher or faster. As for bravery he once charge into a group of Union infantry by himself, and even after being shot hacked a few more men down with his sword. He then picked up a union soldier and used him as a shield as he retreated from all who were gunning for him. After the Union soldier received  many musket shots Nathan Forest tossed him aside. Forest was a very big man to use a live man as such. Like the other generals written above he was almost always heavily outnumbered and caused Union General Sherman to say Nathan Forest, the man, was worth 10,000 men by himself.

He was never captured or killed in battle, and later helped form the Klu Klux Klan and was the first Grand Wizard of the organization. He eventually quit KKK saying that the organization was too violent. No one, it seems, tried to shoot him in the back for his personal feelings of honor.

Patton

  General History CDs

Old Blood-and-Guts was regarded by the Germans' as the western allies best general. In Africa his army defeated a plan design by Rommel.  In Sicily his army excelled while covering the British armies flank. Then in France his army raced ahead forcing the Germans to abandon their effective hedge row defense. Finally at the Battle of the Bulge he performed what others said would be impossible.

Ike

General History CDs

Fancy having to develop a plan to give battle across an channel, where the enemy knows the region, general weather and oceananic conditions. Where the coast adds to the defenders position. When the general on the other side is considered a genius. To do so with at least 4 nations- and all the politics that involves.

He tested his men in North Africa and Sicily before Normandy, forcing the Germans to move men from other regions. He used his best Commader as a decoy, and swallowed every idea the English came up with to confuse the Germans- without letting his ego or American pride get in the way.

Such a man is truly great and was also a great president. For the wars we didn't have to fight , never get notice in the history books! The other side knew what he could do and Ike counter all their deeds in kind. The economy boomed in the US, while so did our allies (and former enemies). If we give credit now to presidents who lead under good economies, why not Ike's? He force peace in the Korean War, while warning of getting involved in South East Asia directly. The 50's were Happy Days because I Like Ike won the election.

The new style of sea battle was unclear in WWII. The British air attack on the Italian Navy lead to the Japanese style attack on Pearl Harbor. Yet aircraft carrier to aircraft carrier was an unknow commodity. To then even learn in the saddle against Admiral Yamamoto! The lead America, England, Australia and now ally Japan is greatest in the understanding, use and quality of men in its use of sea power. Who needs to occupy other countries or cities when you have many floating ones that can be moved around the globe. All this built and based upon the leadership of many men, none more than Admiral Nimitz.

Norman Schwarcoff

  General History CDs

Stormin' Norman made it look easy. Made it look like a video game. He made other men's futures in politics, while choosing like Cincinnatus to go back to the normal work. The plan he was given for desert storm was very direct, verse the big outflanking movement he chose. He didn't perform any political grand standing, and stopped the advance when told to stop, while treating the Iraqis soldiers prperly in spite of how our men were treated. The media looks for mistakes for it general hates the military, and so this general shut them out. Showing how a general must direct wars against the media as well as other enemies.

Moving into Iraq a second time, so long after a successful first campaign, is fraught with dangers.  This is because the enemy learns what went wrong the 1st time and adapts.  Never before has an army moved so fast on the ground and by -past strong points so effectively than in operation Iraqi freedom.  At every turn the Americans arrived sooner than expected before the the enemy could prepare.  From the outset the Iraqi forces were in Catch up mode, preparing postions that were already by-passed or soon to be over run. Again General Franks has avoided grand-standing though he may go into politics in the future.

Abizaid

General History CDs

Despite what the media is portraying it seems that the US is winning this guerrilla/terrorist war too. The only defeat possible is from that of the will of the American people. This is now the only hope for America's enemies, for there is no kink in the US's armour.

The next leader must defeat terrorists who can hit us anywhere, while we can only hit them in the paticular. The only answer now is to farm out the nastiness needed to deal with these elements, and who better than those who like the new found freedom themselves.

This is what Abizaid is doing and may be how all such conflicts will be fought in the future. Abizaid is groundbreaking, and this ground may be the last one we will face for there is no lower for the terrorists enemies to go- than killing their own  supporters. Unless they start killing their own families and then claim the US made them do it.

Unfortunately we need to remove our denial of what it will take to defeat them and there 5th column in most of the Fabianist media.
